It is considered to be one of the deadliest viruses which have no vaccines yet. So what Exactly is Coronavirus (COVID-19) and what precautions we can take regarding food safety?
This virus is mainly spread through a person -to -person contact through the respiratory droplets when someone coughs, sneezes or talks. It can be spread when someone touches surface or object, including food or packaging that may contain virus on it and then touching your own mouth or nose or eyes. However, no one is sure that consuming food or handling food is the main way that is associated with the Coronavirus Food .
Safety during the time of Pandemic:-
Once you have handled any kind of food packages, or preparing any food items, or eating the food. One must wash their hands for 20 seconds with soap and water. If you cannot wash the hands with soap and water then use hand sanitizers(60% minimum alchohol)
The risk of getting the virus from food, treated drinking water or the food packaging is very low.
One must have food safety in the kitchen. The virus does not grow in the food but bacterias are likely to grow on food.
The virus which causes COVID19 has not been found on drinking water yet.
One must regularly wash their vegetables when they bring it from outside.
We should have clean surfaces to prepare the food. This is the important thing considered in the pandemic. Clean your surfaces with Disinfectants to keep the surface clean.
If someone in the home is sick, clean the high touch surfaces like Knobs, door handles, etc.
Handling of packaged food items is necessary. If one orders it from outside make sure it should be cleaned. Make sure not to use disinfectants on food packages.
Gently rinse fresh fruits and vegetables under cold, running tap water.
